Festival of Lights

Today is Deepawali or Diwali. It is the hindu (Indian) festival of lights. Mythology tells us the story of one of the hindu gods, Rama, who triumphed over the evil Ravana and returned home on this day. He had been away from his family and his kingdom for 14 years. On his return, the people were very happy and to show their happiness they lit oil lamps all around their homes. This evening, most hindus will light candles or lamps outside their sparkling spring-cleaned homes and invite God into their homes. And what will Sunil and I do? We don't know. The light has gone out of our lives. It went away the day we were told that our son had a brain bleed and that we have to "let him go." When our son breathed his last breath, we were engulfed in a dark blackness and that darkness is here to stay. The only candles we light are candles lit in remembrance of our lost baby.

  1. I worked at a Hallmark store for several years and I remember selling cards for Diwali day. I never knew the story behind it. I know that your life is dark with sadness. I am so sorry for your loss. From my heart I am asking you to light that candle tonight in memory of Akul and also to let God in. ((HUGS))

  5. You know, Nimoli, I thought of you yesterday because our city has a huge Indo-Canadian population and there is much excitement and celebration underway for Diwali. My heart goes out to you and Sunil as you struggle to feel celebratory during such a time of loss and sorrow. I'll light our candle on the mantle tonight for Akul. I hope you find some peace and comfort during the five days of Diwali. (((Hugs)))

  9. Craig and I don't celebrate anything either ... we have no reason to celebrate, nothing to celebrate. I don't know if it will ever get better ... I hope so. xxx

  10. I'm so sorry. I can absolutely relate, this post truly spoke to my heart. I have waffled so much since Calvin died about my belief in God. I find the holidays especially unbearable, and especially religious holidays. I have no advice or thoughtful comments for you other than to say I understand. Sending you hugs

  12. I know this is coming late but I am saying a prayer tonight that the veil of darkness lifts and that Gods pure love and light reach your tearbrimmed eyes and broken heart. *Big Hugs*

  13. Sorry for the late response, but I just wanted you to know that I am thinking about you tonight. I just went upstairs and lit our special candle in front of your beautiful Akul tonight. I know it's not much, but I hope you can have a little bit of peace.
